Metal Gear creator re-iterates his desire to make a Zone of the Enders sequel during this year's Tokyo Game Show.

TOKYO--Back in October 2009, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima announced his intention to begin work on a new installment in dormant Zone of the Enders mech-combat franchise. His enthusiasm for the project evident, Kojima went as far as to promise that a sequel would get made, despite leaving the question of when unanswered.

Two years on, it seems Kojima has not forgotten his promise. Speaking at the this year's Tokyo Game Show, Kojima reiterated his intention to make a ZOE sequel during the live stage show for the recently-announced Zone of the Enders HD remake. As translated by Japanese gaming news site Andria Sang, Kojima announced that a ZOE sequel was in development at one stage before stating his surprise at seeing so many people turn out to hear about the ZOE HD re-make. This latter point impressed him so much that he announced he would return to his office to speak to his staff about re-starting work on the ZOE sequel.

During the stage show Kojima also revealed the HD remake of the PlayStation 2 games will include three to four minutes of entirely new animation.

The last title in the franchise was Zone of the Enders 2, which was released in 2003 on the PlayStation 2 and received a strong critical reception. Kojima has previously stated his disappointment with the title's lackluster sales, saying setbacks in the game's release schedule prevented it from hitting sales targets.
