DICE's Battlefield 3 is waging living room war this October when the game arrives for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. However, those platforms might not be the only place gamers can look for some Battlefield 3 action.
Listings at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Hachette Book Group for a $10 novel called Battlefield 3 strongly hint that there will be a book based on the title's narrative for gamers to pick up.
According to the publisher's listing, ex-British military soldier-turned novelist Andy McNab (Bravo Two Zero, Immediate Action) is writing the fiction with help from DICE executive producer Patrick Bach.
According to its product description, the Battlefield novel--which spans 400 pages--will ship alongside Battlefield 3 on October 25. McNab is no stranger to Battlefield 3, as he helped with the motion-capture recording for the game. McNab's military knowledge runs deep, as he served many years in the military, enduring torture in Iraq. His true identity remains unknown.
A novel based on either Battlefield 3 or its universe would not come as much surprise given the precedent that has come before it. Franchises like Homefront, Crysis, Halo, Uncharted, Resistance, Rage, and Mass Effect all have been novelized.
