Child of Eden due on PS3 Sept. 20
Jul 18th 2011, 23:53

Child of Eden garnered a solid critical reception upon its release for the Xbox 360 last month, but its sales performance left something to be wanted. Q Entertainment's psychedelic shooter sold just 34,000 copies during its debut month. However, Child of Eden will have a second chance when it arrives for the PlayStation 3.

Today, Ubisoft announced that the game's PS3 release will come on September 20 in North America and September 23 in Europe. Of note, whereas the Xbox 360 edition of the game integrated with Microsoft's Kinect add-on, the PS3 version will feature Move-enabled motion-controller support.

Developed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment, Child of Eden is largely in keeping with the developer's previous work. The game takes its cues in large part from Mizuguchi's acclaimed rhythm shooter Rez, and it features the same style of music-enhanced shooter gameplay with psychedelic visuals.

It also bears a storyline: Gamers will attempt to rescue the embattled Project Lumi, which is an effort to "reproduce a human personality inside Eden, the archive of all human memories." A virus has invaded the program, however, and players must defeat it before all hope is lost.

The game's visual style approximates a virtual reality universe and is heavily reliant on geometric shapes in motion against an ever-shifting background. The shapes join to take on aspects of the virus, evolving from tiny single-block creatures into giant wormlike monstrosities.
