S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 studio facing uncertain future
Dec 12th 2011, 16:33

Sequel's fate in doubt as GSC Gameworld responds to reports of shuttering, saying, "We will do our best to continue."

The future looks a little bleak for GSC Gameworld, the Ukranian developer behind the PC postapocalyptic action series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. On Friday, the Russian-language site UkraNews ran a news story reporting that GSC founder and CEO Sergei Grigorovich had decided to close the studio for personal reasons.

That report was later denied on the official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Twitter page, but the denial post itself was later taken down. Today, the official account has finally been updated again with an official statement, saying simply, "We will do our best to continue. However, at this moment, nothing is certain."

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are centered around Chernobyl, which suffered a nuclear reactor meltdown in 1986. In the original game, the town is subjected to a second dose of nuclear fallout, spawning a rash of hideously mutated monsters. To date, GSC Gameworld has released two follow-ups to the original game: Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat. A full sequel, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, was announced last year with a 2012 release window attached.
