Video game bar heads to Melbourne
29 Jun 2011, 5:56 am

Mana Bar will open its second venue in Victoria mid-July; launch weekend to feature hourly prizes, giveaways, live entertainment, and special guests.

Stumbling across an establishment that combines booze and gaming may not be much of problem in a place like Brooklyn, but you'd have to look long and hard before finding such a place Down Under. Luckily, Australia's first dedicated video game bar has plans to expand.

Opening its doors to the public in March 2010, The Mana Bar has played host to the local gaming community in its home town of Brisbane for over a year now, luring punters through its doors with gaming events, competitions, and the irresistible mix of current generation consoles, comfy couches, and boozy cocktails.

Following on from that success, The Mana Bar now has its sights set on both national and international expansion, staring with Melbourne next month where it will set up shop in the popular inner-city district of Fitzroy. Open seven days a week, the bar will feature seven LCD TVs in multiple rooms running new release games on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii systems. Nightly events, gaming-themed display cabinets, and a dedicated Turtle Beach zone where patrons can experience games specifically engineered for gaming headsets will also form part of the attraction.

The launch weekend--happening from July 16--will feature hourly prizes, giveaways, live entertainment, and hands-on with an as-yet-unannounced and unreleased title. The Mana Bar recently announced plans to expand to Sydney, and also hopes to go international in the future.
