BloodRayne: Betrayal debuts next month
15 Jul 2011, 7:00 pm

Last month, Majesco told investors BloodRayne: Betrayal would launch by the end of July. While not quite qualifying as a betrayal, the publisher has pulled an about face on that statement, announcing today that the downloadable game would arrive for the PlayStation Network on August 30 and Xbox Live Arcade on August 31.

Unlike the previous 3D installments in the BloodRayne franchise, Betrayal is a side-scrolling 2D action game. However, the title will stay true to the series' tradition of copious amounts of gore, as the eponymous half-human, half-vampire protagonist cuts a swath through a horde of evil(er) undead with the help of a sword and a pistol. In addition to her conventional ordinance, BloodRayne also has her vampiric powers to fall back on, infecting enemies with her unique ailment and causing their bodies to explode in a viscous shower.

Developed by WayForward Technologies, BloodRayne: Betrayal will be the first Xbox 360 or PS3 title for the studio, which has to date specialized in Wii and handheld games. The developer has worked on a number of recognizable and critically well-received titles, including Contra 4, Batman: The Brave and the Bold - The Videogame, A Boy and His Blob, and Lit.
