The industry-tracking NPD Group's June sales chart marked a milestone for Nintendo's 3DS, as the handheld saw one of its exclusive games crack the top 10 best-seller list for the first time. The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time 3D placed fifth overall on the NPD's multiplatform chart after being on sale for less than two weeks of the June reporting period.

In a note after the NPD numbers were released, Nintendo touted the game as the second-best-selling individual SKU of the month, with 283,000 copies sold. Earlier today, Sony boasted that the PlayStation 3-exclusive Infamous 2 was the best-selling game on a single platform, though it did not indicate how many copies it sold.

Nintendo also revealed its hardware numbers for the month, with the 3DS selling 143,000 systems. The longer tenured members of the Nintendo hardware family did considerably better, with the non-3D DS family combining for sales of 386,000 and the Wii adding an additional 273,000 units to its installed user base, pushing the US total over 36 million.

While Nintendo's hardware platforms couldn't top the Xbox 360's half-million systems sold for the month, the House of Mario's software lineup did manage to one-up Microsoft in one category. Four of the 10 best-selling SKUs for the month called the Xbox 360 home, while Nintendo's platforms combined to claim five of the top spots.
