After watching the season finale of Falling Skies this past weekend, my mind drifted back to the some of the greatest alien invasions in pop-culture history. In 1938 there was the War of the Worlds radio-drama heard Orson Wells and his Mercury Theater players trick the nation into thinking the earth was really under alien attack, then in 1951 we has The Day the Earth Stood Still where aliens attempted to save us from ourselves, and in 1978 we saw the greatest invasion of them all, Space Invaders, which rung in the age of the video arcade.
Had it not been for Space Invaders the entire landscape of video games might be completely different today. It didn't just make video games popular at arcades, but also saved the Atari 2600 from fizzling into obscurity, and instantly became a pop-culture phenomenon.
