HBO Go coming to consoles
Aug 3rd 2011, 19:52

Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes indicates cable subsidiary's premium streaming service coming to gaming systems this year.

Television and movie streaming giants Netflix and Hulu already have dedicated apps available on today's major gaming consoles, but it appears a new player is entering the sector. Speaking to analysts and investors this morning, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes indicated its streaming service HBO Go is heading to consoles by the end of 2011.

"Over the rest of the year, we will widen the availability of HBO Go to include connected TVs, game consoles, and other connected devices," he said.

Unfortunately, further details, like a specific release window or platform availability, were not offered. Time Warner, which owns premium cable channel HBO, already offers the streaming service through the Web, as well as iOS and Android mobile devices.

The HBO Go service--which requires an HBO subscription--lets viewers access on-demand programming, which includes True Blood, Entourage, and Game of Thrones. It launched in early 2010 for Web browsers and has since spread to iOS and Android devices.
