Microsoft releases Xbox app for iPhone and iPad to track achievements, interact with friends, and customize avatars.
Windows Phone 7, being a Microsoft product, has featured Xbox Live integration since launch, but users of other smartphones have been left in the cold. Microsoft has made amends to iOS users today, launching the new My Xbox Live app for the iPhone and iPad.
Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb announced via his blog that the My Xbox Live app for the iOS is available immediately. The iPhone and iPad app is free and brings some functionality of the Xbox 360 dashboard to Apple's touch-screen devices.
The My Xbox Live app is heavy on social features, with the ability to read and send messages to Live friends, manage and invite people to the friends list, and view and compare achievements. The app also allows for editing of player bios and access to the avatar closet for customizing the appearance of avatars.
The new Metro-styled aesthetic introduced to the Xbox 360 in yesterday's dashboard update is present here as well. Regular users of the Xbox 360 dashboard will also notice that many of the smaller elements from the console experience (such as familiar menu navigation sounds) are included.
