Frozenbyte reveals sales total for physics-driven fantasy action game as Trine 2 hits PC; Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of sequel arrive later this month.
Trine put Finnish indie Frozenbyte on the map. To mark today's launch of Trine 2, the developer revealed just how well its original fantasy action game sold.
According to Frozenbyte, Trine has sold more than 1.1 million copies to date across all platforms, with a bulk of the sales coming from Steam and the Humble Bundle. OnLive was also cited as a "notable part" in the continued sales of the game. Trine launched in mid-2009 for PCs and then expanded to the PlayStation 3, Mac, and OnLive.
Trine puts players in the roles of a thief, knight, and wizard tasked with traversing a series of physics-heavy platforming levels. Each class has different innate abilities, and the characters must be used in conjunction to successfully conquer each side-scrolling area.
Trine 2 launched today for $15 as a PC/Mac SteamPlay title and is set to arrive on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade on December 20 and 21, respectively. A Mac App Store version is slated to launch later this week, and the game is also available directly via Frozenbyte's website.
