Neil Burger writing and directing Uncharted film - Report
8 Jul 2011, 2:00 am

Befitting its name, the film adaptation of Uncharted has lacked direction of late, as I Heart Huckabees director David O. Russell dropped out of the project. Now, the film may have found a new captain.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist) is in final negotiations to become the film's writer and director.

While the Columbia Pictures project has gained a new director, it may have lost its leading man. According to the report, it is unclear if Mark Wahlberg--who was pegged to play adventure hero Nathan Drake in the film--is still interested in joining the cast. Wahlberg has been a favorite of Russell's, appearing not just in I Heart Huckabees, but also The Fighter and Three Kings.

Unfortunately, further specifics on the upcoming film, like a potential release date or cast members, have not been officially announced. However, ex-director Russell had indicated his interest in having either Scarlett Johansson or Amy Adams play love interest Elena, with Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci talked about as Drake's father and uncle, respectively.

The next entry in the Uncharted series--Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception--is due out on November 1, 2011. For more on that title, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
