Duke Nukem Forever DLC blowing up this fall
Jul 26th 2011, 23:31

After taking the development torch on Duke Nukem Forever, Gearbox saw the troubled project to its completion last month. The Texas-based studio isn't done with Duke just yet, as today the developer detailed the first downloadable content for the first-person shooter, due out this fall.

Dubbed the Hail to the Icons Parody Pack, the add-on will include four new maps, four new weapons, and three new modes, all for the multiplayer portion of the game. The new maps will have nods to previous first-person shooters like Call of Duty and Doom, while the new modes include Freeze Tag, Hot Potato, and the free-for-all Hail to the King mode.

The Hail to the Icons pack will be free for members of the First Access Club. Originally announced just weeks before the game launched, membership in the First Access Club was limited to gamers who had preordered Duke Nukem Forever from specific retailers or purchased Gearbox's previous first-person shooter, the Borderlands Game of the Year edition.

Gearbox did not confirm a price for the Hail to the Icons pack. However, when the First Access Club was originally announced, the developer indicated that the multiplayer add-on would tentatively sell separately for $10 on all platforms.

After well over a decade in development, Duke Nukem Forever made its delayed debut in stores last month. While Duke disappointed critics and analysts alike, it sold enough copies to rank second on the NPD Group's list of best-selling US retail games for the month of June.
