Battlefield 3 beta gets new map for PC
Oct 7th 2011, 20:13

The multiplayer beta for Battlefield 3 is scheduled to end in just three days, but that's not stopping Swedish developer DICE from continuing to freshen the experience…at least for PC players.

Writing on the official Battlefield Battlelog, DICE community manager Ian Tornay announced that the PC iteration of the Battlefield 3 beta will add the new large-scale map called Caspian Border today. Gamers will be able to play on the new map until the beta ends on October 10.

According to Tornay, Caspian Border will not be extended to the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 iterations of the beta because the map is specifically designed to stress test a 64-player scenario. As was announced earlier, the console versions of Battlefield 3 will support only 24 simultaneous players.

The beta for Battlefield 3 is currently available to all on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PCs, and it ends on October 10. In the full game, Battlefield 3 will sport both a single-player campaign and an online component, which can be played with up to 64 players (for the PC version only). It will also support co-op play for its campaign and will let gamers pilot jets, among other vehicles.

EA also confirmed that the console versions of Battlefield 3 will offer optional "HD installation content," allowing for more detailed in-game textures. The feature will be available on both Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Battlefield 3.
