Gran Turismo 5 update and DLC detailed
Oct 6th 2011, 15:44

Last week, Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi sent out a vague tweet concerning a new update and downloadable content for Polyphony Digital's PlayStation 3-exclusive racing simulator Gran Turismo 5. Now, Sony has offered official word on the matter, detailing the update and DLC on the PlayStation Blog.

The new update for Gran Turismo 5--which is said to be the biggest free update for the racer yet--includes a number of new features and gameplay changes. It will offer new interiors for all cars in the game, reduced load times, the ability to save during a lengthy race, and the option to adjust weather conditions.

Additionally, the update includes revisions to the game's Photo and Shuffle modes, offers full support for Logitech's GT5 and GT7 racing wheels, and gives gamers the 2011 versions of 11 NASCAR vehicles. Unfortunately, Sony did not give a specific date for when the update will roll out, saying only that the patch will arrive "in the next few weeks."

In addition to detailing the new update, Sony offered new details on the new DLC headed to Gran Turismo 5. According to Sony, the unnamed and unpriced add-on will include new vehicles and tracks, as well as "some additional surprises." Like with the update, Sony did not affix a release date to the DLC. However, Yamauchi's original tweet noted that the content would be released the week after the update rolls out.

Finally, Sony announced that the official sticker price for Gran Turismo 5 has dropped to $39.99, effective immediately. For more on the racing simulator, check out GameSpot's review of Gran Turismo 5.
