Konami's dating sim New Love Plus beats out Sega's sci-fi shooter and Square Enix's RPG rhythm game for the top position; 3DS units rise in sales.
Konami's New Love Plus claimed the top spot on the recent Media Create sales update this week, placing first, with 104,969 units sold.
The Love Plus series is a dating sim where players take girls out on dates, interact with them, and get them to confess their love. The 3DS iteration features augmented-reality dates, where players can use the 3DS camera to take girls to real-life places.
Just behind Konami's title are two big releases: Sega's Binary Domain and Square Enix's Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. The former comes in at second place, with 73,683 units sold, while the latter is at third place, with 67,206 units sold.
Binary Domain is a squad-based shooter set in Tokyo in the year 2080 where robots are fighting against humans. The game is the latest project from Toshihiro Nagoshi, who is well-known for his work on the Yakuza series. The shooter will be out in North American markets next week and in Asia ten days after the former region's release date.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is a music rhythm game where players have to hit the notes on the 3DS' touchscreen in time to the beat of the song. The game features more than 50 songs from throughout the RPG series. There is no word from Square Enix regarding a North American and European release of the title at this point in time.
The sole Vita title clinging on to the top 10 is Gravity Rush. The exclusive adventure title is at 10th place, with 53,680 units sold. Meanwhile, four 3DS titles had been consistently hanging on to the top 10--Mario Kart 7 at fourth place, with 22,015 units sold, and Super Mario 3D Land at fifth place, with 17,791 units sold. Capcom's Monster Hunter 3G is just below Nintendo's platformer, with 17,490 units sold, and the company's recent survival horror entry Resident Evil: Revelations is at eighth place, with 15,666 units sold.
Once again, the 3DS was the top-selling console for the week. Nintendo sold 94,667 units of the portable console. Sony's three major consoles are still on the same position: the PS3 sold 21,993 units, while the PSP sold 14,824 units. The sales for the PS Vita took a slight dip from 13,939 units to 12,309 units.
