Hybrid coming together summer 2012
Jan 31st 2012, 18:45

5th Cell locks in launch window for overhauled futuristic third-person Xbox Live shooter.

5th Cell seems to have made productive use of Hybrid's yearlong delay. In addition to confirming a summer release window for Hybrid today, 5th Cell detailed a host of substantive changes to its first 3D shooter.

As to those changes, 5th Cell said it has reworked the game's jetpack-heavy aerial combat system. The game has also been given a new visual design, as the team has revisited character appearances, environments, and user interface. Further, the studio intends to release the game running at 60 frames per second in 720p resolution.

Hybrid is a marked departure from 5th Cell's previous work on franchises such as Scribblenauts and Drawn to Life. The action-oriented game posits a postapocalyptic world in which two rival factions are locked in conflict. The multiplayer-only game will let gamers battle it out in persistent-world online modes.

Hybrid is in development for release through Xbox Live. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage, as well as a new trailer for the game, below.

[Correction:] This story originally reported that Hybrid will include a single-player campaign. This information is inaccurate. GameSpot regrets the error.
