For nine months ended December 31, publisher posted $660 million in net sales; Monster Hunter 3G sells 1.2 million; RE: Operation Raccoon City, Street Fight X Tekken expected to sell 2M each.
This time last year, Capcom reported 41.6 percent net revenue growth, but this year is a different story. For the nine-month period ended December 31, 2011, the company posted sales of ¥50.27 billion ($660 million), a 29 percent drop from what the publisher recorded a year prior.
Additionally, net income for the April-December period was down 52.6 percent to ¥3.24 billion ($43 million). Capcom attributed the downturn in net sales and profit during the period to a "decrease in reaction to the surge during the same term previous year caused by the mass release of major consumer online game titles."
The biggest Capcom hit for the period was Monster Hunter 3G, which the publisher said has sold 1.2 million copies since its December launch in Japan. Capcom also noted that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has sold 600,000 units and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record did well, selling 500,000 copies.
Looking ahead, Capcom said it expects its March-dated games Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Street Fighter X Tekken to sell 2 million copies each.
Capcom noted that its full-year fiscal forecast has not changed. It is still calling for revenues to be down 12 percent to ¥86 billion ($1.1 billion) for the year ending March 31, 2012, with net profits down 10 percent to ¥7 billion ($86.9 million).
