Ghost Recon: Future Soldier due March 6 - Retail Radar
Oct 3rd 2011, 16:33

Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Target say Ubisoft's newest tactical shooter lining up in early March.

In June, Ubisoft announced that Ghost Recon: Future Solider would ship--following multiple delays--during March 2012. Now, several retailers all agree on a tightened release date for the tactical shooter: March 6, 2012.

The release date stems from listings for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier at GameStop, Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, and Best Buy. If the game ships on that date, it will go head-to-head with two other high-profile releases: BioWare's Mass Effect 3 and 2K Marin's X-Com.

However, gamers won't have to wait until March to play the game. A multiplayer beta for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is set to launch exclusively on the Xbox 360 during January 2012 for those who have preordered the title at GameStop or own copies of Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was first teased in January 2009 for an early-2010 release but was later delayed to a Q4 2010 launch. Since then, it has been pushed to the first quarter of 2011 and then again to its current release window.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier gets its name from the "Future Soldier" programs being conducted by the US and its NATO allies. The initiative, currently part of the US Army's Brigade Combat Team Modernization Program, focuses on outfitting infantrymen with networked communications and high-tech equipment. The third-person shooter will have a cooperative mode, and its gameplay will focus on both stealth and heavy action. It is in development for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, and DS.
