Skyrim tops 3.5 million sold
Nov 16th 2011, 15:55

The Elder Scrolls V launch lauded as more than half of 7 million copies shipped to stores were sold to gamers in first 48 hours after launch.

Skyrim sales are sky high. Bethesda Softworks parent company ZeniMax Media today proclaimed the launch of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to be a success, with the game shipping 7 million copies worldwide and selling through more than half of that figure in its first 48 hours on sale.

ZeniMax expects the game's launch shipments to bring in $450 million in sales, and has already reported "large reorders" from its retail partners in North America, Europe, and Australia. The game has also performed well in the digital space, with ZeniMax boasting a new Steam record with more than 280,000 concurrent players on Skyrim's launch day.

While Skyrim has now added commercial success to its critical acclaim, the game's launch hasn't been entirely smooth. One notable bug has impacted the Xbox 360 version of the game, such that players who install the title to their hard drives are saddled with lower resolution textures. That bug will be fixed in Skyrim's next title update, though it's unclear when that will be released.
