Multiple games on the way from Final Fantasy publisher using Epic Games' engine technology.

Square Enix had its first taste of Unreal Engine development in 2008 with the role-playing game The Last Remnant, and now, the publisher is heading back for more.

Epic announced today that Square Enix has licensed the Unreal Engine for multiple games. This news follows Epic's recent opening of a Tokyo branch of its engine support team.

"Many Western games have achieved great success with the Unreal Engine, and this milestone reflects the Japanese development community's trust in our technical prowess," Epic Games Japan territory manager Taka Kawasaki said in a statement.
