'No plans' to bring Minecraft to PS Vita - Mojang
Feb 14th 2012, 14:41

Developer not planning version of open-ended adventure game for Sony's new portable; next title Scrolls is "definitely coming for touch screens."

Minecraft has spread to a host of platforms including PC, Mac, Android, and iOS devices, but the title won't arrive on the PlayStation Vita.

Mojang business developer Daniel Kaplan confirmed (via Eurogamer) that the studio has "no plans" to bring Minecraft to Sony's new portable device, which is due out in North America and Europe next week.

This news comes despite Minecraft: Pocket Edition debuting exclusively for Sony's Xperia Play, and proving popular on mobile devices in general. Mojang revealed last month that Minecraft: Pocket Edition had sold over 700,000 units across iOS and Android devices, with some 5,000 new purchases recorded every day.

Thought Minecraft won't release for the PS Vita, it is possible that the studio's next game--Scrolls--could. Kaplan said the new title is "definitely coming for touch screens," but stopped short of confirming it for the PS Vita. That game is currently embroiled in a legal tussle with Bethesda, which claims "Scrolls" is an infringement on Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls games.
